TORONTO — The main Toronto stock index and its American peers were down moderately this morning, ahead of the Christmas holiday weekend.
The Toronto Stock Exchange’s S&P/TSX composite index was down 18.23 points to 16,164.31, after 90 minutes of trading.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 29.30 points to 24,752.99. The S&P 500 index was down 2.86 points to 2,681.71 and the Nasdaq composite index was down 9.99 points to 6,955.37.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 78.39 cents US, down from Thursday’s average price of 78.53 cents US.
The February crude contract was down 37 cents to US$57.99 per barrel and the February natural gas contract was up five cents to US$2.64 per mmBTU.
The February gold contract was up $5.90 to US$1,276.50 an ounce and the March copper contract was up one cent to US$3.23 a pound.
